About me. Ugh. I hate talking about myself! I've had some art experience, some art education, and some life experience, but nothing fancy. Frankly, my art should speak for itself - and either you like it or you don't, right?
But in case you really need to know something about me, here goes:
Nancy Kerson is an artist, gardener, nature and wildlife lover. She has a wide range of interests beyond these, but these are in the forefront at the current moment. She lives in Sonoma County, California, with her husband, Mike, and their dog, 2 cats, 3 horses (formerly wild Nevada Mustangs), and a flock of chickens.
Nancy grew up in Northwest Ohio, where she loved visiting her grandparents' farm. Her grandfather, C.A. Lukingbeal, was a regional landscape painter. Nancy entered Shimer College after 3 years of high school, but after two years of intensively reading Great Books and Original Source Materials, her creative side was screaming for its share, so she transferred to the University of New Mexico to study art and design.
After graduation, and marriage to Michael Kerson, the newlyweds helped Mike's parents and another gentleman to found a non-profit program for people with developmental disabilities in Napa, CA. Mike and Nancy developed and steered this program for 53 years, retiring in 2023, when they moved to Sonoma County.
in 2000 and 2001, Mike and Nancy adopted two wild horses from the Bureau of Land Management, and Nancy became obsessed with all things wild horses. She learned to gentle and train wild horses, maintained a website that for several years had more traffic than BLM's own website, and she developed and produced an event, "Napa Mustang Days" from 2007 - 2028.
Beginning in 2015, Nancy helped create and develop NapaCART (Community Animal Response Team) to help rescue and care for pets and livestock left behind when people have to evacuate quickly during wildfires.
Currently Nancy is studying ceramics at Kickwheel, Sonoma. At various times throughout her life she has also been a faux painter, soft toy creator, wild horse gentler and trainer, and website designer.
